IMPROVING HOME ENERGY PERFORMANCE

Creating a More Energy Efficient America

The Department of Energy and many other Energy Conservatories in this country have concluded that around 45% of the energy lost in older homes is due to air infiltration and ex-filtration.  In essence, they Leak Money!!

Sealing Homes...Saving You Money is not just an advertising slogan .... it is what we do and it is what we are good at!
Through the focus of building sciences, we invest in the training, and we have the expertise and equipment to access, locate and retrofit homes to meet modern energy and health standards.

Think about this.... If someone told you that they could reduce the amount of gasoline your vehicle was using, wouldn't you find that worth looking into?  This is what we do with homes.........We make them run more efficiently and we lower what you have to spend on utility bills.

Take time and research what you will need to know to have your home properly retrofitted to a new Energy Star Rated Home!!!

  • In the past millions of homes were built during times when energy expenses were much lower and the crises we are facing was less of an issue than it is in todays world. Many of these homes are in dyer need of modern upgrades to meet new Energy Star Requirements.

  • Energy Conservatories have concluded through years of testing and research that these existing structures can be effectively retrofitted to achieve maximum results.

  • The technical knowledge is available now to companies that are geared towards a professional approach in meeting todays higher Energy Star Standards.

  • WeatherMasters is recognized for our achievements in the National Weatherization Program and in step with the need to manifest viable energy saving solutions in our country.  We are committed to providing the most cost effective methods in the industry in achieving maximum results for our customers....We are a trusted company!!!

Weatherization is not just caulking, adding weatherstripping or new doors and windows,. It is actually the most important aspect of energy conservation that can be done when done correctly!

The Process

Our goal is to provide safe energy efficient solutions in lowering your heating and cooling cost.

  • The area inside a home or building that is occupied is where you want to contain the expensive conditioned air we pay for. When a home or building is erected and air sealing measures are not implemented during construction, the buildings envelope will have many bypasses allowing air to move freely and when those openings and cracks are calculated and totaled, they can add up to larger openings which you can relate to always leaving a door or window open during periods of extreme temperature changes.
  • These cracks, joints and seams exist throughout a structure starting at the foundation, floors, in exterior walls and ceilings and they can't be seen, but they can be felt. In most homes during winter cold, the feeling of draftiness is a good indicator of home having a lot of air infiltration.  In the summer it might show up in high humidity in the home or by cool air escaping because the fan from air-conditioning will pressurize the home forcing air through these voids and openings.
  • Diagnostic equipment is used to determine the amount of air infiltration and to locate points of air entering or exiting the building shell. Without the assistance of proper equipment, anyone doing the work would be prone to miss areas that needed sealing. You might say this is a one shot deal when your having this work performed and you want to know it is being done correctly so you can expect maximum results.
  • If you spend money to have this work done, you want to know you are going to benefit from it, right? You want to know that the contractor knows what needs to be done they are doing it the right way so you can have the peace of mind knowing you'll have years of Energy Savings that you might not otherwise enjoy!
  •  If the contractor you have looking at your project fails to mention any of this information, they are not showing good customer care.  Knowing what we know to be true and having it all based on scientific evaluations, we can not ignore the potential health risk that can arise in a clients home if not properly evaluated. That is our professional responsibility !!!
  • We take indoor air quality in homes very seriously because we know it affects the lives of our families and the health of our customers. The air we breath can be affected by mold, outside air bringing in contaminants like pollen, allergenic and dust and the quality of the indoor air we breath can be affected by trapping carbon monoxide and Radon gas.
  • Many homes we see have no issue with air infiltration so little or no attention is needed in that area. The energy loss in this case can be attributed to a weak Thermal Boundary. We ensure we have achieved this process through thermal imaging which detects areas that aren't adequately covered.
  • Insulation is important and with out it the dwelling can't hold conditioned air inside the occupied areas. The equipment and  materials we recommend are of professional grade that allows us to maximize coverage and with professional installations. Rental equipment used to blow insulation is just not affective and it always results in material settling, leaving voids and pockets where convection of energy can't be slowed down or stopped. This can also lead to a condensation forming where two temperature variations are allowed to meet in walls, floor and ceilings.
  • If by our observance during the course of initial visit or during the work process we notice visible signs of convection occurring within an area of the home where moisture build up could pose a problem for the home owner, it is a serious enough issue for us as a company to require a release form be signed indicating good client education was provided on our part.
  • In essence there are a  lot of things to know and understand as a home owner. This information provided in this website is designed to educate and make aware the benefits of these energy reductions measures that weatherization can deliver, but to also alert homeowners to necessity of using professional technicians to do this work
